A Blue Perspective: Australian CSS & JavaScript Workshop

I'm excited to announce that the extremely knowledgeable and entertaining Russ Weakley and I are about to embark on a series of workshops around Australia.

CSS and JavaScript – Foundations of the new web will be a two day workshop divided into CSS and JavaScript components. Russ will kick off day one by taking you through the basic foundations of CSS, then scaling it up to produce some fully workable and robust page layouts:

  • Understanding CSS rule structure and selectors
  • Writing efficient CSS code
  • Building cross-browser stable CSS layouts
  • Creating layouts that are fully expandable
  • Dealing with browser bugs and layout variations

Then I'll counter-punch on day two by introducing the basics of JavaScript, unobtrusive scripting, manipulating the DOM, and finally some AJAX wow-ability:

  • JavaScript fundamentals
  • Unobtrusive scripting
  • Dropdown and expandable menus
  • Validating forms and providing error messages using JavaScript
  • Creating dynamic page layouts based on screen resolution
  • The ins and outs of developing with AJAX

We'll be visiting Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, and Perth. If you'd like more information, visit the workshop webpage; you'll be able to buy tickets there starting April 1.

Wow, Russ must be a very forgiving guy considering what you said about him during the intro to your JS presentation @ WE'05! Then again, that law degree probably helped you talk your way around the situation

I was in the other room at the time and didn't hear anything. Regardless, I have become used to copping abuse from Cameron over the years. I just figured it was his way of expressing his love for me.

Any podcasts for the rest of the world? Pleeease, it's just not fair, I'm dying here in eastern-Europe with complete lack of workshops of any kind.

Or make a tour in Europe. Or something.

Wish I could be down there for your workshops - would love it if you guys posted a summary or podcast after the fact. Or better yet, come visit Vancouver!
