Lovely sentiment and some of us will, sadly, say from experience "Yes, of course". :(

Well I hope that isn't a reflection on your state now.

And those smileys looks as if they're hiding big, sharp teeth behind those grins.

    Therein lies the loss.

    It's not true ;)

It is often the case that we don't appreciate something until we no longer have it. But it doesn't have to be that way - that mindset is something we can learn to change.

To be more aware of our immediate surroundings - to smell the coffee, as it were - and with that comes a greater appreciation of what you have, right here, right now.

"This one I have watched a long time. All his life he has looked away... to the horizon.. to the future. Never his mind on where he is! hmm? What he is doing!"

Count your blessing mate - you have more reason than most to do so ;)

I agree with James.. you *can* elevate your awareness (and appreciation of what you have here and now) by deliberately paying closer-than-usual attention to the details of everyday life. It's known as "mindfulness" and is worth looking into if you can manage to avoid all the new age cranks.
